One of the most basic rules of good direct-response copywriting is to focus on the emotions of your potential customer.
In my case, that’s you, dear reader.
My challenge is to get in your head…understand what you’re feeling…and speak directly to you.
That’s normally the aim.
So please forgive me because today I’m leading with my emotions.
The horror. The horror.
But I am really excited.
In fairness, of course, this is a website about me. So it follows the content is going to dip into what I’m up to.
Still, self-promotion is one of those annoying things isn’t it?
It’s hard to get right.
Blow your own trumpet too loud and you’ll give your audience tinnitus. Blow too quietly and all people will hear is the annoying guy at the back of the jazz club who whiffs a bit and claims he met Miles Davis once (which everyone knows for a fact is a total lie).
For me, it comes down to another basic rule of direct-response copywriting...
Being authentic in copy trumps almost anything else.
So I’m writing how I feel. And right now I feel excited.
I’ve written a book!
Announcing The Art of the Click
An entire wall of our front room is covered in books.
There are books on the shelves of our bedroom. There are books in our kitchen. There are even books in our downstairs toilet.
Ruth and I read a lot.
If dogs could read, I should think Pablo would do the same.
So, to have a book of my own being properly published is a great feeling.
Hold on. Waffling is not a good trait of direct-response copywriting. I’m going against the advice I offer in Chapter 16 of my book.
Aha. The book! The source of my happiness! And the reason for this very post. More on that!
Since then I’ve been working back and forth with my excellent editor at Harriman, whipping the thing into shape.
The final manuscript is now all but ready and it’s about to go into production.
It’s due to be officially published October 1st...but I’m excited to announce you can now pre-order your copy on Amazon.
It’s called The Art of the Click: How to Harness the Power of Direct-Response Copywriting and Make More Sales.
There’s so much to talk about, and I will do
Pitching the book was a new experience in itself, which I’ll write about.
The editing process has been enlightening and is another good subject to cover.
Creating the book in the first place…explaining what it’s all about…and exploring all the ways it can be used...
They’re all subjects for future posts.
Right now, it’s just exciting to have it there and real and it being a thing in the world.
My aim is to get it in as many hands as possible. I’d love it if you’d like to get it in your hands. I’m looking forward to people reading it and the conversations we’ll have about the stuff I’ve covered.
Already I can see a book like this is as much a conversation starter as it is a thing in itself.
Don’t get me wrong, the book has a simple aim: to teach more people how to use direct-response copywriting to make more sales and grow their business.
It's extremely practical and reading it will help you do that, no matter what business you're in.
But I hope it will introduce new people to new ideas they’ve not thought about before and from there we can talk more and I can offer more tailored advice.
Indeed, over the coming months I’ll be doing various talks about how different businesses can use direct-response copywriting, as well as digging deeper between the pages of the book itself. There’ll be launch parties and other fun things too.
But to help me do all that, it would be so good if you were to pre-order a copy today.
Pre-ordering it now gives the book momentum on things like Amazon…it helps it get more press…and it means I can do more exciting things around it.
Best of it is: if you pre-order on Amazon today, the best price is guaranteed as well, which is good to know.
Now it’s a real thing in the world, I’ll be writing about it much more, so be sure to keep an eye on this website. If you’ve got questions about it, would like me to be a guest on your podcast or write something on the subject of direct-response copywriting for you...please do drop me a line or comment below.
Like I say, it’s exciting.
It’s exciting that it’s now available and I can start to tell you about it.
But I’m most excited about how the book will help me connect with my readers, including you.
