But good busy.
Damn it: good busy?
I think I hate that phrase. What does it even mean? Busy is a stressful thing, isn’t it?
I guess it’s because you’re busy doing good things.
But still, I think we need a new word. Suggestions on a postcard please.
Anyhow, I guess this site is about telling you what the busy is.
So, let’s do it…
Brilliant people, brilliant chat
It started out as a bit of a small spare time thing…
But the The All Good Copy Podcast (#AGCpodcast) has taken on a life of its own, which is ace.
If you’ve not listened yet - there’s a seventeen-episode-strong back catalogue to get your ears around now.
I’ve been speaking to some absolutely wonderful guests and there are even more amazing folks booked in for future episodes.
In fact, I’m now booking in past episode 40, which seems crazy.
You can find an archive of the podcast on the All Good Copy website here.
Listen to my rambling words
Apparently there’s a publisher in China working on the Chinese translation as we speak.
But in the meantime, the audio version of my first book, The Art of the Click, was released and is doing nicely.
It’s narrated by a lovely chap and professional voice actor called Ian Pringle and you can find it wherever you get hold of your audiobooks…
Or on Amazon here.
The first ever copywriting stand-up show
My ambition to become a stand-up comedian will never quite be realised…
But my talks on copy are at least the next best thing.
Well, I mean I do stand-up during them. Whether they’re funny is a different matter.
Still, after great shows in Bristol, Edinburgh and Leeds…
I’m lined up to do two talks in London and one in Hull in October.
Details for those are here.
There’s also early suggestions of me popping over to speak in Amsterdam.
More on those rumours as they’re confirmed.
Yes, I write copy too
As well as working on a number of different long copy sales letters, I’ve been writing a lot of different types of copy recently.
It makes me realise how much I love it.
I guess that’s why I do it, right?
But it’s been particularly fun creating Tone of Voice guides, rewriting websites, working on social media campaigns and inventing interesting things to talk about in various blogs and what not.
And all across really weird and wonderful industries. It’s all pretty cool.
Figure out what you love doing and do that, they say.
It’s cliche advice, but I admit: it’s on the money.
The challenging ‘second book’
I was asked to contribute to the second issue of The Marketing Society’s EMPOWER magazine recently and wrote about Gauguin and creativity.
How art interacts with copywriting really interests me, as does the creative process generally.
That’s shaping up to be the subject of my next book.
Fans of my writing will be pleased to know I have started work on the thing…
But it’ll be a little while in the writing just yet.
I’m enjoying the process, though. And I’m excited about the book I think I can write.
I know I’m missing a load of things…but I don’t want to bore you.
I appeared on the Call to Action podcast. You can listen here: Call to Action.
And I was on the Business After Hours podcast too. That’s here: Business After Hours.
Pablo is good. He’s two in October and he’s asked for a proper football.
Ruth is good too. She’s making some amazing things, which you can find here.
Otherwise, that’s it…
I said I’m busy and now I’ve got to get some copy into legal.
And make a cup of tea.
Well, I’ll be back again before too long with more news.
